End of 2024 the book ‘Einsatz Arnheim German Armoured units and their opponents at Arnhem and Oosterbeek’ will be published. Ordering from January 2025. Shipment scheduled from february.
Einsatz Arnheim deals with the battle between the German armoured forces and their British and Polish opponents in and around Arnhem.
A wide range of sources were used, including official German records, Allied documents, reports, interviews and diaries of the soldiers involved and eye-witness accounts from civilians. The German perspective of the battle at Arnhem became clear after discovering and deciphering the war dairy (Kriegstagebuch) of the 9. SS-Panzer-Division.
Meanwhile, on the British part, the War Diary of the Headquarters of the Royal Artillery revealed much insight into the unclear fighting especially in the final days. This data was analysed and combined with what can be seen in photos and film. It provide a clear overview of the fighting. An interesting story emerged about the famous Battle of Arnhem with several new insights.
For example the research learned that the often mentioned German commanders Brinkmann and Von Allwörden made no significant contribution to the fighting in Arnhem and Oosterbeek, but that unknown commanders such as Bartholomäi, Büdecker, Balzer, Carnap and Sonnenstuhl did play important decisive roles. It became clear that if Operation Market Garden had started a day later there would have been a very good chance of success because the last elements of the Kampfgruppe 9. SS-Panzer-Division would transferred to Germany on Sunday the 17th September. Discovering that certain elements of the 10. SS-Panzer-Division played a decisive role during the battle around and in Oosterbeek was a revelation. And the British and Polish anti-tank guns determined the shape of the Perimeter at Oosterbeek also becomes clear through this book.

Content
Einsatz Arnheim delves into the intense clash between German forces and their British and Polish adversaries in and around Arnhem in September 1944. The narrative meticulously examines the role of German armour in the conflict, drawing from a diverse array of sources including official German and Allied records, as well as firsthand accounts from soldiers and civilians.
A pivotal discovery was the war diary of the 9. SS-Panzer-Division which sheds new light on the battle around Oosterbeek and Arnhem, while insights from the War Diary of the British Headquarters, Royal Artillery, offer valuable perspective, particularly on the final days of the engagement. Through rigorous analysis of data, supplemented by photographic and film evidence, a comprehensive narrative of the Battle of Arnhem emerges, revealing intriguing details previously overlooked.
Contrary to previous perceptions, lesser-known German commanders like Bartholomäi, Büdecker, and Balzer emerge as key figures in the fighting instead off the more renowned leaders such as Brinkmann and Von Allwörden. The study also highlights the critical timing of Operation Market Garden; had it commenced just one day later, the odds of success for the Allies would have significantly improved as the majority of Kampfgruppe 9. SS-Panzer-Division would have withdrawn to Germany.
Professional illustrations painted by Steve Noon give the reader an idea of what certain important situations look like in colour. Everything is richly illustrated with maps and diagrams to make the whole story visually understandable. And as last for this book, exceptional photographic material has been used. In some cases better in quality but quite often completely unknown.
This book has 536 pages, more than 500 photos, documents and illustrations, some never before published, and about 100 full-colour maps and diagrams to illustrate the text.

About the Author
The author, Marcel Zwarts researched documents and archives and studied them to make a clear picture of the complete battle.
Based on the new material, an explanation was given of the unsuccessful breakthrough attempt across the Arnhem road bridge by the SS-Panzer-Aufklärungs-Abteilung 9 on the morning of Monday 18 September 1944.
On a tour for a close friend held he is explaining the concrete embankment to the bridge in the pre-liminairy version of his book.
