Scott Revell (Defending Arnhem) looking forward

From Scott’s FaceBook page

So looking forward to this book in early 2025. It is a must have for your library!
As a specialist in the German actions at Arnhem in September 1944, I’m thrilled to hear that Marcel Zwarts’ book, Einsatz Arnheim, is nearly ready for release.

Earlier this year, I had the privilege of previewing the final stages of the book, and I was absolutely blown away by its contents. The photos, high-quality maps, and level of detail are truly outstanding. Marcel and I have corresponded for many years about the intricacies of the German operations at Arnhem, so I had some idea of what to expect. However, the wealth of information he has uncovered from archives and private collections across Europe is unparalleled.

One of the standout discoveries featured in the book is a critical file from the archives: the War Diary of the 9th SS Panzer Division Hohenstaufen. This document provides invaluable insight into the division’s orders, strength states, fire missions, and even the dispositions of German forces such as Kampfgruppe Spindler throughout the battle. It sheds fresh light on which German units played pivotal roles in overcoming the British 1st Airborne Division at Arnhem.

Each German unit is meticulously detailed, down to the company level where possible, including vehicles, equipment, and commanders. What sets Marcel’s work apart is his careful validation of German accounts through cross-referencing with the official records of the British 1st Airborne Division. This is particularly impressive in his analysis of the locations and actions of airborne anti-tank guns against German armour.

Marcel was already renowned for his thorough documentation of the Hohenstaufen reconnaissance battalion in a previous publication, but this book goes even further. It includes never-before-seen details about the death of a German commander, uncovered from unlikely European archives.

Without question, Einsatz Arnheim is set to become the definitive reference on the German actions at Arnhem. It’s a must-have for anyone interested in this subject. If you haven’t already pre-ordered a copy, don’t wait as this book is sure to sell out quickly and will make an exceptional gift for Arnhem and history enthusiasts.
